Rebecca recently cared for a very ill patient and showed such compassion and support to not only the patient but also his family. This patient remained on the unit for many weeks, and Rebecca had the opportunity to care for them frequently. Even when she was not assigned to this patient, she would stop in to say hello and see if there was anything that they needed or anything that she could do for them. She created such an amazing rapport with this patient and his family and showed them that not only was she their nurse, but she truly cared about them. The patient and his wife had been married for 30+ years, and she knew just how much each one meant to the other. She always made sure to encourage the patient's wife to go home and rest, leave to get some fresh air and encouraged her to take breaks from staying at the bedside to go and eat. The day of the patient's passing the patient's wife was in shock and was inconsolably crying and shaking. Even though her husband had passed away on another unit, all she wanted was Rebecca. Rebecca went to sit with the wife and cried with her, hugged her, and provided her with the support she so desperately needed. Rebecca not only consistently provided extraordinary high-quality care to this patient while he was alive, but also went above and beyond the call of duty after his passing for his wife and family.
