Regina Clark was the Nurse who cared for my 86-year-old grandfather the last days of his life. Grandpa was awaiting a heart valve replacement but never regained enough strength to have the surgery. Grandpa had been blessed with a healthy, wholesome, long life and was only in and out of the hospital the last few months of his life when his health quickly deteriorated. During those last few months, we were blessed to have Regina care for us. We were aware that Grandpa had reached a point where all that medically possible had been done and keeping him comfortable until the Lord called him home was the only option. Regina made the surreal occasion bearable. She cared for Grandpa with the utmost respect and compassion. Regina even did all she possibly could to ensure the family was cared for and were as comfortable as possible as well.
Grandpa would do anything Regina asked of him. She was able to joke with him and get him to take his medication that other nurses had struggled with. He truly developed a love for her and we all were thankful she was there the night Grandpa passed. Upon Grandpa's passing, she even shed tears with us. Regina located a wheelchair and wheeled my heartbroken grandmother to the parking lot. She is an amazing, caring, and genuine person who has definitely found her calling in life. Regina Clark is an asset to the Carilion New River Valley Medical Center and most deserving of recognition!
