Regina continually advocated for the safety of the patient and her family while educating the hospital staff and police/EMTs on the patient's disease process and the symptoms she was having.
Regina was dispatched to see a patient who was extremely agitated and had started to hit her family members. Upon Regina's arrival, the patient ran out the door and into the street. The patient threatened Regina with physical harm, so she backed away and called 911, as well as our on-call provider. When the police and EMT arrived, they questioned Regina as to why she had called. Regina explained the situation and advocated for the patient to be taken to the ER so Regina could safely transfer the patient to the DHH IPU. She was advocating while trying to keep the patient out of the street and out of the way of oncoming cars. Once at the ER, Regina continued to advocate for the patient as the hospital staff wanted to discharge her back home and questioned why Regina didn't "just let the patient walk around the neighborhood until she tired herself out." Regina continually advocated for the safety of the patient and her family while educating the hospital staff and police/EMTs on the patient's disease process and the symptoms she was having. As Regina's TL, I feel she handled this situation beautifully and fought for what was best for the patient, who was safely transferred to the DHH IPU that night. Regina is a new OHI teammate who takes great care of her patients. I appreciate her and all she does.
