Nurse Renato Arceo always goes above and beyond to help patients. He always puts “Taking care of patients first” as his first priority. He stops what he is doing i.e. eating during lunch and will help or talk to a patient on the phone to get the answer they need. As the Maquette Universal System for Electrocardiography Manager, he uses his own time (during lunchtime or after working hours) to conduct daily inspection of 24 EKG machines around 19 clinics/departments to ensure they are serviceable and safe for use. Through multiple process improvements, he implemented a closed-loop communication between Recruit Training Command Medical Liaisons and Cardiology staff that greatly decreases the average wait time to book an appointment from 4 weeks to less than 5 days. During peak manpower shortages with only one out of six Hospital Corpsman (HM) available in the clinic, he stepped up and took on some of the HM’s responsibilities.
