She demonstrates empathy and compassion, creating a safe and supportive environment for learners. Her effective communication skills, including active listening and the ability to articulate ideas clearly, contribute to her success as an educator.
Reta has demonstrated exceptional dedication and expertise in her role as a Clinical Simulation Educator, making a significant impact on the education and development of nursing professionals. With her extensive experience as a Registered Nurse for forty-two years, with a focus on critical care, Reta possesses a deep understanding of the challenges and complexities of the nursing profession. Her commitment to ongoing learning is evident in her pursuit of advanced degrees and certifications, including her certification as a Certified Critical Care Nurse by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.

I want to highlight Reta's recent presentation at the 23rd International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH). Alongside Dr. Rojas, Jane Buffington, and Christina Van Den Handel, Reta discussed how providing a safe and realistic hybrid critical care simulated experience could improve medical residents' confidence and ultimately enhance patient outcomes. This presentation showcased Reta's expertise in simulation-based training and her dedication to improving the medical resident curriculum. As a Clinical Simulation Educator, Reta has shown a passion for teaching and a commitment to providing the highest quality education to nursing students and medical professionals. She specializes in critical care simulation scenario development, ensuring that participants are exposed to realistic situations that enhance their skills and knowledge. Reta's expertise extends to various areas, including cardiology, hospice, and pacemaker, IABP, and PA catheter courses. One notable contribution of Reta is her work in developing and facilitating Hospice Simulations. These simulations provide Hospice nurses with valuable opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge in caring for patients in both home and inpatient settings. By creating a safe and realistic learning environment, Reta has helped to strengthen the expertise of Hospice nurses, ultimately improving patient and family/caregiver care.

Reta's impact is not limited to NGHS medical professionals. She has also played a crucial role in providing critical care simulations for University of North Georgia (UNG) nursing students. Through these simulations, students have been able to apply their theoretical knowledge in a hands-on, immersive environment. Reta's guidance and expertise have helped students develop critical thinking, decision-making, and teamwork skills, which are essential in the high-stakes environment of critical care.

Furthermore, Reta has been instrumental in leading simulated code blue events in the nursing units. These simulations have allowed nursing and physician staff to enhance their skills in early recognition and intervention during critical situations. Reta's dedication to ongoing education and training has ensured that the staff is up to date with the latest evidence-based practices in resuscitation, ultimately improving patient outcomes.

Reta's commitment to education and training extends beyond the simulation lab. She actively participates in various educational offerings, such as providing hands-on training on transvenous pacing and partnering with the ECMO team for hands-on training utilizing simulation. These educational initiatives have allowed healthcare professionals to enhance their skills and knowledge in critical areas, ensuring they are prepared to provide exceptional care to patients.

In addition to her technical expertise, Reta exemplifies the qualities expected of a DAISY Nurse. She demonstrates empathy and compassion, creating a safe and supportive environment for learners. Her effective communication skills, including active listening and the ability to articulate ideas clearly, contribute to her success as an educator. Reta serves as a role model and mentor, nurturing leadership qualities in others and leading by example. She is adaptable and flexible, embracing change and modifying teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of learners. Reta's love of learning is evident in her commitment to lifelong learning and professional development.

Furthermore, I would like to add that Reta has been with the organization for twenty-two years. She was present for the opening of the RGHC and served as a primary nursing preceptor for staff. She was charge nurse and interim nurse manager. These roles further highlight Reta's extensive experience and leadership within the organization. Overall, Reta Garner is a deserving nominee for the DAISY Award for Nurse Educators. Her dedication to education, expertise in simulation, and commitment to lifelong learning make her an exceptional educator and mentor. She consistently demonstrates the NGHS Core Values and Core Competencies and builds collaborative working relationships with her colleagues. I strongly believe that Reta's contributions to nursing education deserve recognition and commendation. Thank you for considering Reta Garner for this prestigious award.
