I was admitted for treatment of a complicated case of shingles. I was put in an isolation room on the third floor of IU Health Hospital in Bloomington, Indiana. The next five days were very painful for me, and after having started my stay optimistically, I was soon overcome with exhaustion and sadness. In one quick moment, I felt tears rising into my eyes, and when they started to flow, I couldn't stop them. Being alone in my isolation room I couldn't enjoy walking the hallways, and in fact the only people I ever saw were completely gowned and masked. I felt desperately alone. That's when Rholyn showed up to do the routine work of checking my vitals, etc. She saw my red face and heard my sobbing, and without hesitation, came over to my bed and took my hands in hers. Such warm, loving hands! She spoke soothing words and stroked my arms. I don't think she realized what a blessing she was to me in that moment, but her act of love filled the hurting part of my psyche with warmth and love, and just like that...my depression was gone. Thank you, Rholyn, for being present for me in that dark moment of my sadness. Your timing was spot on, and your response to my need was perfect. I'll never forget your sweetness.
