Rick was my zone partner with a patient with an active GI bleed. The patient was very unstable. Rick was able to help me get multiple IV's on this patient, begin hanging emergency medication and assist me in mass transfusion protocol. He did not leave the room even when it was time to give report to the next shift until the patient was more stable.
Rick's role and quick skills led to this patient having the best possible care in the ER; Rick also took this very unstable patient and helped make him more stable to go to the OR. Rick was a key player and nurse in this patient's care. The patient's original SBP was in the 60's, Rick was able to help resuscitate and reach an SBP of 110's. Rick being in the room had a definite impact on this patient's survival.
