RG assumed care of our son following a rough readmission due to post-op complications. RG was patient, kind and knowledgeable at all times. As an RN who specializes in advancing the profession of nursing through my focus on quality, safety, and education, it was not lost on me that dealing with me, as a patient's mom, might be difficult. I was vigilant in my role advocating for my son. RG handled every inquiry with professionalism and grace. RG does something that I teach/encourage constantly. He is transparent and he talks through (out loud) everything he is doing to/with his patients and their families. This skill puts patients and their families at ease. It also builds trust. RG masterfully navigated through two 12-hour shifts without ever missing an opportunity to perform proper hygiene, scrub the hub, place caps on lines, trace lines, verify orders or validate questions. He embodies safety first! I also witnessed an amazing teamwork mentality in RG. He performed every task without hesitation. I saw him cover for other nurses so they could eat, although I never saw him take a break. I saw him run patients to procedures when transport was not available and he worked without an NCP for the majority of a shift. I think RG, like many nurses, would say- "I was just doing my job", but I know he is an exemplary nurse. His peers could learn a lot from him. Fluff is not important. Keeping our kid safe and creating trust is paramount. Thank you, RG. Proud to call you a peer!
