Rilyn connected with the veteran during his hospitalization and made a positive impact during his stay.
Veteran Mr. T requested that the MTU nurse manager come to his room. When the nurse manager arrived, Mr. T said, "I have no complaints, only praises. I have received the best care from my nurse - Rilyn." Mr. T said that Rilyn went above and beyond in their nursing care, "putting the veteran first and their job second." He said that Rilyn took the time to ask him how he was doing, asked how they could help him before moving forward with their assigned tasks, and then proceeded with the tasks they needed to complete once his immediate needs were seen to.
Mr. T really appreciated how Rilyn took the time to arrange his sheets before leaving the room. This task was especially meaningful because he struggles with mobility in his right arm, and this small action would have been difficult for him to do on his own. He said that Rilyn embodies everything that a nurse should be. He said that Rilyn served him with a positive attitude every time they came into his room. He said he wanted to meet with the nurse manager to communicate his great appreciation for the care that he received from nurse Rilyn Jewett. He was unable to write this nomination himself but asked that the nurse manager write a nomination on his behalf. Rilyn embodied advocacy by focusing on the individual needs of Mr. T and embodied respect by helping Mr. T complete tasks that he was unable to do on his own. Rilyn connected with the veteran during his hospitalization and made a positive impact during his stay.
Thank you, Rilyn, for giving such great care to Mr. T and to all your patients! You demonstrate ICARE values in your work, and you are a great asset to our team!
