She was so considerate of our mother, making her feel comfortable with her joy and laughter.
"Not all angels have wings, some have stethoscopes." Yes, that can describe this nurse. She was so considerate of our mother, making her feel comfortable with her joy and laughter. Our mother is showing signs of short-term memory loss. She responded well to simple instructions, and the kindness that this nurse provided while we, as a family, navigated her care with countless specialists and doctors was spectacular. This nurse was very attentive and paid attention to our concerns. She is so knowledgeable, professional, and well-informed in her area of concentration. Our mother’s condition worsened in the late afternoon as we were going to be transferred to another unit. This nurse was our advocate in creating a plan that would best suit our mother’s needs in hopes of getting the best outcome for her. She answered our questions truthfully and honestly. We, sisters, also felt empowered to pursue our patient rights. We would counter with our Medicare rights that were provided by Northside to remain in this unit where we get a higher level of care. We knew our mother was taking a turn for the worse. The outcome was looking bleak. And sure enough, the MRT RN was in our room at about 8:30 pm. This nurse called it! This was not an exam. She felt empowered to make the best decision for our family. Again, another cliché came to mind: “Smart enough to be a doctor, crazy enough to become a nurse.” Yes, that is this nurse. We discovered that she has two beautiful daughters. She obviously creates a balance in her life that allows her to be the best she can be in her chosen profession. It is without hesitation that I nominate this nurse for the DAISY Award!
