We were notified to come and speak with a patient who wanted to speak with the CEO and would only speak with the administrative team. The patient is a post-CABG patient. He said our nurse, Robin Howell, didn’t need to be anywhere but here. He stated that if it weren’t for her, he would not have been able to make it through his recovery. He let us know that he believed he was coming here to die and wouldn’t have come here except for his family insisting. After his surgery, he was really down on himself, dealing with his difficult recovery along with working through his past life events that he was reliving. Patient said Robin was the type of nurse and person he needed to get him to see the right side of things. She was able to get him to quit feeling sorry for himself and see all the reasons for life, especially family. He stated that he can be a difficult individual, but she would give it to him right back, “and that is exactly what I needed.” “I have been to other hospitals for different family members. I know what can happen.” He stated that what she did for him, the way she was able to get on his level and understand him, made him appreciate and respect her for what she does. “For what she did, I would take a bullet for her.” He wanted to make sure that we were able to do something for her, and he wasn’t going to take no for an answer.
