I received a call that my daughter had an emergency C-section and that my sweet grandson was in the NICU. I live 3,000 miles away and I found the first flight that would get me there as soon as possible. The rational nurse in me told me that they were all in excellent hands, but the protective mom in me told me that I needed to be there.
For the next two days, my little grandson was under the compassionate and competent care of Robyn. Your mission to reach out to those who need you is palpable in Robyn's demeanor. I'm just grandma but I needed her. Robyn took the time to explain everything to me in the medical terms that I thrive on. This allowed me to understand the parameters that were monitored and what milestones my grandson needed to advance toward. I felt cared for which allowed me to care better for my daughter, son-in-law, and grandson. She was encouraging toward my daughter and son-in-law and engaged them in the care of their child. My favorite memory is when my grandson had his first experience at the breast. Robyn gave my daughter gentle instructions and encouragement which made for a very positive experience. She was a cheerleader whenever my daughter brought the milk that was pumped. She made my daughter and son-in-law proud of all that they were doing to care for and nurture their son. As new parents, Robyn's care and nurturing of Mom and Dad allowed them to develop a level of comfort and confidence in the care of their son.
Robyn is patient, calming, interested and engaged. She is a model of excellence in the delivery of evidence-based patient-centered care. I had to return to Virginia but I left feeling confident that my grandson and his Mom and Dad were in the best of hands. I had received enough education from Robyn that I was comfortable with my new knowledge. On your web site, you list your promise "Know me, care for me, ease my way," Robyn took the time to know me, to care for me and to ease my way as much as she did for my daughter, son-in-law, and grandson. Thank you, Robyn, for your caring. I've been a nurse for 40 years and I have never been as touched by a colleague as I have been by you. You are a hero and the community that you serve is very lucky to have you.
