The bottom line is that Ronni is fair and constructive with her feedback yet clear with her goals and expectations. She is definitely keen on delivering the best quality and safety practices in her care.
I first encountered Ronni during the DOH survey in January and my first impression of her did not fail me. She is very focused and a go-getter. During my quality and safety rounds, she is eager to show her performance for central line and foley maintenance. She does not even hesitate to help me clean patients and check wounds during pressure injury rounds. For instance, she enthusiastically wanted to check with me about her patient’s wound albeit on short notice as I do my rounds unannounced. When we went into the room, she introduced me to the patient and explained the assessment that we were about to conduct. She educated the patient about the significance of turning and consistent evaluation of the wound for progress. When we turned the patient, he was dirty, so she did not hesitate to clean the patient. The patient felt comfortable clean and relaxed. Moreover, I have observed her preceptor skills to train a new nurse in which she is capable of capturing the learner’s attention explains the basis for actions/decisions, and answers the learner’s questions clearly and precisely. For instance, she was explaining to the orientee about time management and how she needs to organize her priorities. She explains the rationale of which tasks need to be done and opportunities to learn from. The bottom line is that she is fair and constructive with her feedback yet clear with her goals and expectations. She is definitely keen on delivering the best quality and safety practices in her care especially in the midst of the current value-based purchase model that subscribes to CMS and Joint Commission standards. She has the knack to understand the significance of these nurse-sensitive indicators as they relate to the bottom line and patient experience. Overall, Ronni is an exemplar nurse who is compliant and committed to our mission to improve the quality of life for all our patients as well as to our vision to create the best possible work environment.
