A Thank You note to Rose:
I believe God used you as His true servant of mercy and compassion. A few days prior to his passing, I met you at the hospital and was watching how you interacted with dad, and how you cared for him. We spoke a little about my concerns for dad, and you shared with me how he reminded you of your father who passed--we cried together. You were empathetic, compassionate, and kind.
The next day, while visiting my father, he shared with me how you came to check on him and you spoke with him. He said you both spoke about a lot of things and how you both talked about your dad and you cried over him. Then he said, "We talked about me…and she cried for me". I was amazed that someone who barely knew my father would show such love, such compassion. You could have just been kind and walked away. Instead you chose to show him love and mercy and kindness. What you did wasn't just all in a day's work…it was beyond going above--it was heaven sent!
We didn't speak about what you two talked about, but I told him: "You must feel pretty special to know you are loved that much--for someone you just met to take time for you…to cry for you. He smiled. And this was not a simple smile if you knew my father in all his health--he was a vibrant, lively man with a big, infectious smile. That smile: I had not seen it in a long, long while…until that moment.
So, I want to extend my gratitude to thank you-for making a frail, broken-hearted man who was fearful of his imminent end--smile and find solace in your words…. They had a profound effect on him. It helped him find peace-knowing he was loved and would not be forgotten.
There are no words to express how thankful I am that God sent you to be with dad. He had many great nurses work with him, but you stood out among them: for your compassion, your love for humanity, your love as a daughter for her father--left a lasting impression on the hearts of both my father and me. I will never forget the blessing God gave us in meeting you. You will be in my prayers. Thank you.
