Being the only male nurse in the Highsmith Express Care and a retired veteran of the US Army, he has established himself as a leader throughout the department. Roy approaches his position in the health system with a positive attitude and is always available to help his co-workers with urgent situations within the department. He volunteers to assist other staff members with problems both professional and private and is a staunch advocate for his patients and their needs.

Roy recently prevented a child from being abused or abducted by an adult male assailant who won him the admiration of the child's family and the court system alike. He also saved a child from choking on their food at a local restaurant by intervening and successfully performed the Heimlich maneuver. Roy never accepted any reward for his assistance in the potentially ominous situations.

Roy displays enthusiasm for his job and supports the health system in their efforts to improve the patient experience. Roy has received acclaims from the Fayetteville Observer by patients who have appreciated his concern and assistance in the Express Care.
