Her sense of humor makes us feel at home and comforts us at a time when other family members can't be near.
Saige was my husband's nurse when he first checked into the hospital with Burkitt's Lymphoma. We had just been told that we needed to travel from our home in Wisconsin to Rochester for treatment and that we wouldn't be able to go home until treatment was complete, which was about 2-3 months. Needless to say, this was an emotional time. Saige was extremely comforting. We could tell right away that she was extremely knowledgeable. She taught us a lot about what was needed to live in and out of the hospital during this extended treatment. She also showed her knowledge with the training of newer nurses. Her experience was exhibited by the way she performed tasks. Something as simple as pinching a fatty area when giving a shot or taking a deep breath before accessing a port could really minimize the pain of the procedure for my husband. During outpatient times, we have been excited to have Saige as our nurse in the LC. Again, a familiar face means so much. When his hair started to fall out, it was Saige who offered to shave his head. This was a bit of an emotional time for us, but having Saige there made the whole experience so much easier. Her sense of humor makes us feel at home and comforts us at a time when other family members can't be near. We so look forward to seeing her when we are inpatient or make the daily trips as outpatient because she always comes in with a smile and makes us laugh. We can't imagine going through this experience without Saige. She has made this so much easier.
