Sam went above and beyond for us and our son B. She is caring, considerate, compassionate, and seems to understand just what people need. One of the first nights after surgery when B was still sedated and intubated, I was emotional missing home and wanting to hold B. She asked me about home and B's nursery and was able to calm my fears about B needing the intubation to rest after his brain tumor resection. When I woke up, she had cut out B's name from construction paper and colored dinosaurs to match his nursery at home! It brought me to tears that she would take the time to make our room special and bring some home into our ICU room. When I went back to work for the first day after 3 weeks of being in the ICU, Sam took the time to help me get ready and feel prepared to go back. She even went through a checklist with me to make sure I had everything! On top of all this, I can't even list all the ways Sam helped our family, both medically and emotionally. I always slept better knowing Sam was with B because I knew she cared about him, so I wouldn't worry about having to get up right away if I heard a noise. Anytime I woke up to B crying, I would hear it quickly followed with Sam soothing him (it didn't seem like anyone could calm him as well as she could!). She is definitely an above and beyond nurse, and Children's is so lucky to have her!
