We would like to recognize Sam for her compassion, exceptional care, and unwavering kindness, which she shared with my mom during her final hours with us.
On Sunday afternoon, my brother and I took our sick mother to the GSL ER Orwigsburg because she was having stomach issues. As the doctors and nurses gathered her symptoms and vital signs, they scheduled her for more tests. During the time that the doctors, nurses, and technicians were working on a diagnosis for my mom, she met her angel, nurse Sam. From the moment that Sam walked into her room, her glowing personality, caring demeanor, and nursing skills were apparent. She knew how to calm my mom down in the most caring way by the way she talked and joked with her. My mom LOVED it. As the night progressed, we received word that my mom had a torn esophagus. Although my brother and I didn’t know the gravity of the diagnosis at that time, I am sure that the staff did. Sam and the entire team continued to make my mom comfortable and made her smile and laugh as they prepared her to be transported to be evaluated by a surgeon in the Wyoming Valley facility. The following day, the surgeon at GWV determined that the tear was inoperable, and unfortunately, our amazing mom passed away the following day. We would like to recognize Sam for her compassion, exceptional care, and unwavering kindness, which she shared with my mom during her final hours with us. Words cannot express the gratitude that our family has for the excellent care and medical attention that she received during her time at the Orwigsburg facility.
