Her dedication to my papaw’s well-being was clear, as she stayed attentive and caring all the way until he was transferred to his room. She didn’t just do her job; she did it with love for her patients and pride in her profession.
I am nominating Samantha Childress for the DAISY Award for her exceptional care and compassion during my recent visit to the ER with my papaw, who was admitted with dangerously high blood glucose levels (above 550).
Passion/Compassion for Nursing: Samantha demonstrated genuine care from the moment we arrived. She didn’t just focus on his medical needs—she cheered him up with jokes, lightening the atmosphere during what could have been a very stressful time. Her compassion was evident as she explained what was happening and the reasons for his admission, making sure that both my papaw and our family felt informed and reassured.
Empathy in the Situation: Samantha’s empathy stood out throughout our time in the ER. She made sure we understood the seriousness of the situation without causing panic. Her ability to balance being both professional and comforting made a significant difference in how my papaw felt during his stay.
Trust and Teamwork: Samantha’s dedication went beyond just caring for my papaw. I noticed how she went out of her way to assist her coworkers, from helping with cleanup to completing tasks herself. It was clear that she was a team player, always willing to lend a hand wherever needed. Her proactive approach contributed to the overall smooth running of the ER.
Admirable Attributes Possessed: Throughout our experience, Samantha was consistently patient, kind, and approachable. She checked on us more frequently than most nurses I’ve encountered in the past, ensuring that my papaw was comfortable and that we felt supported.
Love for the Patient and Nursing Profession: Her dedication to my papaw’s well-being was clear, as she stayed attentive and caring all the way until he was transferred to his room. She didn’t just do her job; she did it with love for her patients and pride in her profession.
Selflessness: Samantha’s selflessness shone throughout her shift. Even when things got busy, she continued to offer her help to others and went above and beyond to ensure that my papaw and other patients received the best care possible. In summary, Samantha embodies the qualities that make an extraordinary nurse. Her compassion, empathy, and selflessness left a lasting impression on our family, and we are truly grateful for her care during such a critical time.
