We were comfortable asking her anything and we shared things with her that we would not be comfortable sharing with anyone else, she is such a good listener.”
I am expressing gratitude to nurse Sandy, at the request and with the permission of a patient and their spouse. She is being recognized for the excellent, caring nurse that she is.
During a gathering of friends, the patient’s wife was expressing her appreciation for their nurse, Sandy. She said that she and her husband were incredibly comfortable with Sandy and that they felt like they could say anything to her. The wife said, "we were comfortable asking her anything and we shared things with her that we would not be comfortable sharing with anyone else, she is such a good listener.”
This patient’s wife said that with his diagnosis came many questions. She said that Sandy was there when his doctor spent a good amount of time explaining things to them and shared that, “when the doctor was finished explaining things, and left the room, Sandy looked at our faces, pulled up a chair and said that she could tell that we had questions and she sat there with us, explaining things until all of our questions were answered.”
This patient’s wife said that one time when she was telling Sandy how much she and her husband appreciated her, Sandy responded by saying, “oh, I'm just a nurse.” She said that she told Sandy that day that she was not just a nurse. His wife went on to say "Sandy has been there for us, she has guided us, and she seems just as concerned about how I am doing as she is about how my husband is doing." She pays attention and remembers things that we have told her that make him more comfortable during his treatments, which decreases our anxiety and offers us a secure feeling in knowing that he is receiving the best care in the most capable of hands.
