Sara Hays, RN, was nominated for the DAISY Award by her manager on 6 West Medicine / Oncology Unit at Huntington Hospital. Sara’s patient wrote the Thank You note that follows. The patient’s mother presented the award to Sara, unfortunately her daughter passed away before the award ceremony.
Dearest Sara,
You’re an Angel, thank you.
Thank you doesn’t even begin to express my gratitude for all you did for me during my hospitalization. It is so obvious that you were meant to be a nurse in life. Thank you for always keeping my best interests at heart and acting as my advocate with my doctors and other nurses. Above all, thanks for being such a sweet, kind, and compassionate sounding board on days I felt down. I so enjoyed our nightly chats (esp re: REALITY SHOWS) and gossiping. Though I wish I didn’t need to be admitted, I feel honored to have met & gotten to know you.
You have no idea how happy I was to find out you were my RN during the night. It was such a relief to know you’d be looking out for me. Thanks for doing all you could to keep my pain & nausea under control, and helping me get all the sleep possible.
