Sara is one of those nurses that make other nurses smile when they see they are scheduled to work with her. She is always positive and her caring attitude is an example for all of us. She is willing to take any assignment and always helps her co-workers. Her smile and energy are contagious! She is able to bond with every type of patient and often identifies needs that otherwise would have gone unspoken and un-met. Recently Sara was the nurse for a new Mother-Baby couple. The mother was only 13 years old and the pregnancy was a result of her being raped. The family support available to the patient during admission and after discharge was minimal. Sara was able to form a bond with this new mother.
This mother wanted her baby and wanted to be able to be a "good Mom". Sara spent many hours giving this Mom 1:1 education. By giving this woman the support, encouragement and resources she shared, she was able to make this 13 year old a capable and confident mother. Sara organized help getting needed supplies at home, Right from the Start, transportation to follow up appointments and help with breastfeeding after discharge.
I am always proud of the quality of care that Sara provides for all of our families. But her effort, skills, enthusiasm and time given to this patient made a new life possible for this very young mother and her baby.
