We had a patient who delivered her baby at 17 weeks. This patient was assigned to a male nurse. 

However, Sarah noticed what had happened and safely stepped away from her patients to attend to the grieving mother. She comforted the mother and truly showed compassion by taking the time to honor her baby. This is hard to do in the Emergency Department, and most people run in the other direction since it is such a sad situation. But not Sarah, she sat with the mom, placed the baby in a crochet blanket, and took pictures of her sweet baby so that the mother would have a keepsake of her child. 

Sarah helped navigate the process of finding a funeral home and provided many resources to support the patient. She went above and beyond for this patient who was experiencing one of the worst days of her life. 

I am honored to nominate Sarah for the DAISY Award and am very proud to work with such a caring individual who truly makes a difference! Without a doubt, this patient/mother will now remember Sarah’s acts of kindness for the rest of her life.
