Being a patient is very tough; you just want to feel better and go home (even if you haven't recovered fully). But when you realize that you truly need to be a patient, it's very comforting to know that you will be in the hands of someone who is skilled and cares. I'm sure that patients come and go so fast that it has to be difficult for the patient and his/her nurse to gain any type of trusting relationship. Sarah made me feel like she knew me almost immediately. She addressed my needs before I could even ask about 99% of the time. She listened to my frustrations at being a patient who wanted to leave (but needed to stay) and didn't dismiss my emotions. When I began having some medical complications, she made sure that I received everything I needed to feel better. She really just asked the right questions in order to help me get the best relief from my medical issues. She immediately contacted my doctor to let him know that my condition had changed and to request new medicine to alleviate the issues. Although I'm sure she had other patients in need, she never made me feel like I needed to rush to voice my concerns and needs. After giving me the new medications prescribed by my doctor, she checked on me throughout the night to ensure I was feeling better. Sarah has a very soothing voice and genuine compassionate attitude. It can't be easy working the night shift having to wake patients up for medications and vital checks, but Sarah does it in such a gentle, unobtrusive, and dignified way. Sarah embodies the nursing spirit of Florence Nightingale. Cleveland Clinic has found a true gem in Sarah!
