My father has been critically ill with UTI/Sepsis and extremely low blood pressures. His treatment required a central line for presser medications and steroids. These medications required constant monitoring. We were blessed to have Sarah as his nurse. Her level of expertise was amazing to observe. She was consistent with coming in frequently to make any adjustments to his medications, while keeping a close eye on his blood pressure readings, etc. Sarah knew exactly what to do and when and notified the doctors accordingly. Sarah knew exactly what to do and when and notified the doctors accordingly. It was obvious the doctors trusted her skills and decision-making process and never once changed anything that she was doing.
This was the first time my sister and I had experienced this type of health concern for our Dad. I must say that Sarah was so calm, comforting, and informative. Sarah explained everything that she was doing and why he needed the medications and what they were doing for him. She gave us so much peace of mind. Honestly, I could leave there knowing that Sarah was taking care of Dad as if he were her own. I could call her at any time to see how he was doing, and she always gave me details and reassurance that he was in great hands.
Although my Dad has had a brain injury and has difficulty speaking and expressing himself, I know just by looking in his eyes that he just loves Sarah. He just smiles at her and his eyes just sparkle when she is talking to him. He feels how caring, compassionate, and sweet she is when taking care of him. Those qualities in a person do not require words.
Other occasions, Dad has been on other floors including ICU, and I will go to the 3rd floor to let Sarah know that he is there, and she smiles and lets me know that she is aware and following his care. Even when she doesn't have him, it's a comfort to me that she is still caring for him.
