I was nervous when I found out that I needed a total knee replacement. But I knew that I didn't want to live out the rest of my years in the pain I had been experiencing. Martha Jefferson is always my "Go-To" for healthcare needs. As a past patient, I have always been impressed with the quality of care and the courtesy that the staff and caregivers provide. But I must admit, I was actually awestruck but the compassion that I received from one nurse in particular during my 5-day stay. Sarah Hobbs provided exemplary patient care! She understood that I have difficulty hearing so she stopped and moved in front of me and spoke loud, clear and distinct. She took the time to make sure that I understood and she explained things in a way that made sense to me. She not only had a positive attitude, but she seemed to actually enjoy her job. I know these seem like simple things, but a smiling face and a compassionate nurse can make a world of difference to an old lady trying to recover from the biggest surgery of her life! I know the hospital administration puts considerable effort into recognizing patients' needs, but Sarah should absolutely receive the recognition of the DAISY Award for going the extra mile and being an extraordinary nurse.
