Savannah and Samantha came in countless times to check on my family and me, asking if we needed anything.
My world changed forever. I got the call that no one ever wants or no one ever thinks, will happen to them. I drove like crazy to the ER and was escorted to a special room, not the waiting room. They were working on my husband. We got moved to a room, and the doctor finally came in and told me that they lost my husband. I will forever remember that day and the two nurses who were there.
Samantha Lipscomb was Charge that day, and Savannah Halseth was the nurse. I have worked in healthcare for almost 2 decades and have seen patients die, have seen family members grieve at the bedside for hours, and never thought it would be me. Savannah and Samantha came in countless times to check on my family and me, asking if we needed anything. I just held on in disbelief, holding on to him for hours, maybe? I don’t know. All I know is I never felt from either of these two nurses that I was holding up a room, was in their way, was being stupid for holding his hand. I never felt rushed or felt like I needed to leave.
Savannah and Samantha, I think you both are DAISY Nurses for being compassionate and supportive and answering my sister’s questions about what I needed to do next and whether we needed to leave or have fewer people in the room. Thank you for your calmness and for not judging. Just thank you both. I will never forget that day, and you two stood out from everyone else.
