She assured me that she had my mom and that she would take the absolute best care of her, and she 100% kept that promise.
My mother was transported to UMMC for what we thought was a simple endoscopy procedure from a local hospital near our home. The circumstances rapidly changed, and I lost contact with my mom. When I finally located where my mother was taken (Weinberg 5) I was put into direct contact with her nurse, Sed. She was actually in the middle of admitting my mom. Sed put me at ease by letting me speak with my mom, which made my whole world. Sed then gave me the full rundown of everything that had happened and was so kind and compassionate.
That was just the beginning of the great relationship she formed with not only my mom but with me as well (and we never even met). She assured me that she had my mom and that she would take the absolute best care of her, and she 100% kept that promise. Sed was my mother's nurse from the Friday she was admitted until the Sunday evening when her shift ended. When my mother first arrived, she was very sick, and everyone just assumed that she was bedridden. Well, when not ill, my mother is a very independent, strong-willed 70-year-old woman. Sed had the insight/instinct to ask the questions needed to get to know my mother. Her communication and interpersonal skills are the best I have witnessed during the traumatic medical emergency my mom endured. I would frankly go as far as to say she is the BEST nurse I have ever personally encountered. In just three days that my mom spent with Sed, giving her a gentle nudge in the direction towards getting back to herself, my mother was capable of getting out of bed and moving/walking around, using the restroom herself, and taking a shower. Also, with close monitoring, Sed was able to take her off oxygen, slowly not needing it. We are so grateful that Sed was the nurse that my mother was blessed with. She made this whole scary nightmare one to learn and grow from. I pray that if I ever end up needing the critical care that my mother needed, I will be so lucky as to have an angel touch as Sedria provided for my mother. Without a doubt, Sed deserves to be recognized for making a world of difference in our lives, and I’m sure every patient that she encounters.
