I went into the patient's room to help her set up the pump, and while we were in there, Selina was extremely comforting to her patient. That really touched my heart and reminded me of why I wanted to be a nurse.
I am a nursing student at Arizona College of Nursing-Tempe and I recently had my clinical rotation in the labor and delivery unit. Although my nurse was not Selina, her amazing nursing skills, compassion, and genuine work made her stand out to me. During the entire 12 hours that I was here, Selina never failed to care for her patients in the most humble and compassionate manner that I have ever seen.

I clearly remember Selina having two patients. One was a patient who had a broken leg or foot, and another was in labor with a 25-week-old baby. The patient who had the broken leg was in excruciating pain, which led her to act immediately and find the best solution for her patient. Selina was having a hard time figuring out, along with the physician, what pain management was the best for that patient. After witnessing Selina call physicians and other medical staff members, Selina was able to get an order for a PCA pump for her patient. Selina was very persistent when advocating for her patients the ENTIRE time. At one point, I offered to help Selina with anything she needed. I went into the patient's room to help her set up the pump, and while we were in there, Selina was extremely comforting to her patient. That really touched my heart and reminded me of why I wanted to be a nurse.

Nurses like Selina make me want to be better and do everything in my power to be there for my patients. I remember that day the nurses ordered Cheba Hut for lunch, Selina did not take her food at all until her patients were taken care of.

I wish I had more space to express how amazing Selina was. I wanted to take the time to nominate such a caring girl for the DAISY Award and thank her for her amazing work. Thank you, Selina!
