What makes Shane an exceptional person and a remarkable nurse who genuinely cares for his patient and the patient is his unwavering commitment to helping his colleagues and his readiness to go to any lengths to ensure his patients receive top-notch care, whether it be by advocating for them or ensuring they understand patient care outside of the hospital.
Because of his outstanding patient care and unwavering commitment to assisting others, I would like to recommend Shane for the DAISY Award. Shane always goes above and beyond to help his patients and coworkers. He tackles every assignment with professionalism, expertise, and patience, whether it's helping with challenging patients or saving lives.
Recalling a patient's attempted suicide that happened a few months ago. I needed help removing a stethoscope cord that was twisted around my patient's neck, and Shane was there to help. I was traumatized by the situation. However, Shane made sure to check on me and reassure me that I was all right both after the incident and throughout my shift. What makes Shane an exceptional person and a remarkable nurse who genuinely cares for his patient and the patient is his unwavering commitment to helping his colleagues and his readiness to go to any lengths to ensure his patients receive top-notch care, whether it be by advocating for them or ensuring they understand patient care outside of the hospital.

More than once, while I was busy with other patients, Shane greeted my admission, got them settled, and got their vitals without me asking and with zero hesitation. My first night off orientation he helped me all night as I struggled to keep up with my patients. Since working with him, I have seen Shane do nothing but offer help and support to those who need it. He is a shining example of a wonderful and kindhearted nurse.

I’ve worked in healthcare for almost 10 years. Shane is one of the best nurses I’ve ever worked with. He’s always ready to help and he is so patient and kind to everyone. There was a time when I was just coming back to work after being out with Covid and he helped me the whole shift. Without me needing to ask and not expecting any recognition. He’s like that with everyone during every shift. There’s never been a time when he’s not willing to answer someone’s question or give a helping hand to a staff member. There is not a single staff member on our unit who has a bad thing to say about him. And that’s not an exaggeration. Whether it’s a bed alarm going off or someone struggling with a heavy assignment and just needs a little extra help. He is always the first one to jump in. He’s such a genuine person, and he’s never condescending, rude, or makes you feel less than needing assistance. If there is anyone who deserves a DAISY Award, it’s him.

He takes the time to check in with his team to ensure everyone is okay, often stepping in when extra support is needed. His compassion, expertise, and willingness to go out of his way to make a difference genuinely embody the spirit of nursing excellence. There was a time when we were assigned to the back section of the unit, caring for a particularly difficult patient, and Shane went out of his way to assist me in managing the situation, even though he had difficult patients of his own. Shane has an incredible ability to recognize when help is needed and always steps in without hesitation. I have never seen him complain about any assignments, no matter how challenging they are. His calm demeanor and unwavering support ensure that both patients and colleagues feel cared for, making him an invaluable member of our team and truly deserving of this recognition. Shane is an exceptional nurse, a team player, and someone I can trust to go to for help without judgement. I remember I was struggling/surviving one night, and he offered to assist with my blood transfusion with no hesitation. He picked up the PRBC, he monitored patients and completed my vitals while I provided care for my other patients. It was my first night back from being away for two weeks due to a family emergency and mentally I was drowning. His ability to sense that I was struggling that night makes him an exceptional nurse. I don't think Shane gets enough credit for the hard work he does on the unit, and there is no other person who deserves this DAISY Award more than him.
