...Shannon Johns shows compassion and care when discussing her care plans for her patients. Our floor RNs are very appreciative of the care Shannon provides to Allegiance patients, as well as many patients who have also expressed appreciation for Shannon's dedication to quality wound care. Shannon frequently stays over her shift hours to make sure every wound care patient that needs her care is seen by her on that day before she goes home. In addition to seeing patients, she does many wound care and pressure ulcer projects for the hospital and takes nursing students for wound care education.

I specifically remember a total care patient who was admitted. His family cared for him at home. At discharge, the patient's daughter and wife called Shannon expressing concern over the wound care they were to provide at home. Shannon went to the patient's house after work, on her own time, though they lived a bit to the south of Jackson. She helped the family and patient at home with the patient's care that evening before going home to care for her own family. I believe that Shannon Johns not only represents the qualities of a DAISY Award recipient, but also embodies the Allegiance motto of leading the community to better health.
