His ability to be present meant so much to his mother, family, and friends.
Our world turned upside down when we heard the news that our dear friends were in a car accident with only one survivor, their son. He suffered from broken bones, a severe concussion, and a grieving heart over the sudden loss of his sister and father. Shawn was his nurse for the first three days he was at Children's Hospital Colorado in Colorado Springs. He made an instant connection with him and put him and his mother at ease. Shawn sat at the end of his bed and stayed with him. His ability to be present meant so much to his mother, family, and friends. It was my friend's son's birthday the day after the accident, and Shawn took the time to ensure that his hospital room was decorated. My friend, the mother, described Shawn to me as an angel, and it was by divine intervention that her son got to have Shawn as his nurse. Shawn was not supposed to work those days, but his schedule had changed at the last minute. Shawn will never know the lasting impact he had on my friend's son's heart. He needed a male figure and someone he could trust during this loss, and Shawn was just that. Shawn gained his trust quickly, making him feel more comfortable with his care. Shawn's compassionate care made this tragic situation a little easier to bear. We could rest, knowing that he was receiving the best care. I know nursing can be stressful, and sometimes you can be pulled in many directions at once. Thank you for taking the time to connect and genuinely care. Thank you for being such a huge blessing in our darkest days.
