Sheila has spent time and effort to not only make the care happen for the patient but also to change the process for the good.
Sheila has been an oncology nurse for all of her career and is a wealth of knowledge. She is always willing and wanting to assist anyone in need. There’s a common statement within the cancer center whenever there is a question “Go ask Sheila, she will have the answer”, and it never fails, Sheila will provide the time for clarification, answers, and education to those in need. I recently had a nurse practitioner student with me and several times a day we would both say "Let’s go ask Sheila" because we knew she would have the answer to the question. I also recently had a new social worker orienting with me who would eventually transition to the Cedar City Cancer Center. Sheila without hesitation, let the social worker sit in on new patient visits, chemo 101s, and other opportunities for the social worker to learn the process and what it’s like to work as an interdisciplinary team. I have witnessed countless moments in which Sheila has gone above and beyond on behalf of a patient. Even when Sheila has been told that something cannot happen on behalf of a patient, or there are no other options, Sheila has spent time and effort to not only make the care happen for the patient but also to change the process for the good. I can’t imagine our cancer center, or the cancer centers within the system, functioning to such a high degree without the knowledge and care Sheila provides.
