Serving as charge nurse this past week I got to witness Shelbie Kidd go above and beyond and seek out additional help for a patient prior to her discharge. One of her patients had explained she had no money to pay for her several prescriptions including a very important "blood thinner." She was going to wait a week to purchase her meds until she had money come in for the month. Shelbie felt like she had to step up and help any way she could to ensure the patient got her meds, at least until her monthly income came in to avoid possible complications and risk a readmission or worse. In addition to a medication discount card, Shelbie spoke with care management and they were able to cover the patient's co-pay for the meds being prescribed new to the patient. The patient was very grateful.
