My fiance was diagnosed with sepsis and admitted to Hillcrest Hospital. The sepsis caused an ileus, which was pressing on his diaphragm. His breathing had gotten very labored, and I was just going to get a nurse when Shelbie walked in. She checked his blood pressure, and it was 74 over 40. She immediately contacted the doctor, and he had her administer fluids. I felt he was losing his battle with sepsis as he kept saying to me that he “loved me.” I then lost my emotional control, but during the crisis, Shelbie reassured me with her calm and efficient actions. She also reassured his son and daughter-in-law. She not only saved his life, but she did more than her job, with her empathy and caring nature in her voice and actions for the whole family. I cannot admire, appreciate, or applaud her more. Thank you so much.
