In September, I was admitted to Banner Desert Hospital at 4 a.m. Excruciating pain was the problem. I am writing to commend the quick, pleasant, competent help I experienced. I was in two different rooms during my five-day stay. The entire staff in both locations was excellent.

In particular, two nurses, Shelby Carson and another nurse, deserve praise and thanks for their great empathy, outstanding professionalism, and caring attitudes.

It was a particularly bad time for me. I’ve been relatively healthy much of my 80 years, and this kidney stone struck out of nowhere, it seemed. The pain was about the worst I’ve ever experienced. The timing could not have been worse. My husband was recently put on a 24/7 feeding tube indefinitely, as well as oxygen. We are in the midst of trying to pack up and prepare to leave our home of 40 years to move to assisted living. Now I land in the hospital. We have no children and are more or less on our own. I was depressed beyond words. 

Both of these nurses went out of their way to care for me – it was just the “medicine” I needed. I think I even spotted a halo over each of their heads!
