Shelley’s drive and motivation for the provision of care is profound. She is an active member in our hospital's patient care committees who advocates for evidence-based practices.
Shelley Coomes is an invaluable member of our critical care team. I asked Shelley to be the subject of one of my projects in my BSN classes. I was tasked with a meaningful conversation with a nurse who is making nursing history, and Shelley is the first person who came to mind. Shelley is the utmost professional and eloquent. I find her amount of knowledge, passion, and kindness to be inspiring. She is most often the backbone of our critical care units. She makes a difference for not only the patients she cares for but her colleagues as well. Shelley shared some touching stories with me about times she has made a difference for her patients and how fulfilling it is to be there for someone in their time of need. We talked about self-care and what nurses go through on a shift-to-shift basis, how important it is for us to take care of ourselves, and how she is always a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on. I have counted on Shelley many times for insight and advice. Shelley’s drive and motivation for the provision of care is profound. She is an active member in our hospital's patient care committees who advocates for evidence-based practices. As a leader, she draws upon the legacy of research and evidence to guide decision-making and ensures that our care provision is based on the best available knowledge and practices. I am truly grateful to be a part of the nursing community and to the incredible individuals like Shelley who have chosen this path. Shelley is empowering, dedicated, and has a genuine desire to help others and make a positive impact on their lives.
