Shelly Clontz did a remarkable job taking care of her patient. Her kindness and compassionate care left an impact on both the patient and family. Shelly compassionately spoke with the family regarding choices. She improved the quality of remaining time, by removing the bi-pap and suggested opti-flow instead so that the patient and family could have conversations regarding end of life special wishes. Shelly intuitively knew that the patient's spouse had not been eating and caring for himself as he was too grief-stricken to leave the bedside of his dying wife. Shelly left work that morning, went to Chick-fil-A, got him a meal and coffee, and brought it back. Her kindness and compassion made a difference and made me proud to be a nurse and part of the Northeast ICU team. Shelly is an excellent member of the team.
