I would like to nominate Shelly for her dedication to her patients, families and her department.
The other day, she worked the late shift and was held back even later for her patient was not able to leave until 11 pm and lived a few hours away. Upon pick up, Shelly asked the patient and family if they were planning to drive those few hours home that night. They replied in telling her they were staying at a hotel that night but weren't sure where the hotel was in relation to the hospital. This wonderful, caring nurse had the patient and family follow her in their car while she escorted them to the hotel which was 20 minutes out of her way. This act was truly out of compassion and kindness for the patient and family only had a four- hour interaction.
Shelly always stays to help her peers, is always willing to switch her shift to accommodate the needs of others or the unit. She works on the department schedules with another RN but always tries to be fair to her peers. She has not called off once since working in our department and is truly an excellent and valued employee, meeting all the AHN core values.
