Shino is a model of nursing excellence in our Emergency Department. She is always supportive of her fellow nursing staff, jumping in to help wherever she is needed. Although Shino is just one small person, she is a powerful force in the ED who seems capable of doing the job of many. Even more important, Shino is a model of respect in every facet of patient care.
One of the important aspects of nursing care in the ED is assisting the patient's family members. Recently, we had a stroke patient in the ED who was accompanied by their teenage daughter. The daughter was developmentally delayed and only spoke Vietnamese. She was clearly upset about her parent's condition and was crying. Shino took the time to stand by the daughter's side and support her through the frightening experience.
Aside from being a role model for other staff and providing compassionate care to patients and their families, Shino brings a bubbly and colorful personality to the ED that is absolutely contagious. We honestly have never seen a nurse laugh as much as she does.
For these reasons, we are proud to present Shino with the DAISY award.
