I would like to thank my nurse, Shreejana! She is one of the best examples of what a good nurse should be. My partner was in ICU, diagnosed with liver cancer, and so weak, not eating and not expressing himself. She was his nurse every night, and he would perk up, and she could get him to talk; she started calling him by his first name, and he really seemed to respond to her. She could tell him, "Come on, just one more bite" or "just another sip," and he’d do it. She told him when he asked, she was here in the US from Nepal and moved here to be a nurse. She left all her family back home. He was so happy to see her, he called her his best nurse! She just made him feel so alive and really learned about his feelings, always saying, "What’s wrong? Is something bothering you?" He would talk to her and ask her questions about her home and family. He was so proud to have her as his nurse and looked and asked about her nightly. She was a nurse who made him feel like she truly cared about him. She was his favorite, he said.
