They accepted me with open arms, and I met the most wonderful team of nurses I have ever experienced in my 75 years on this planet!
Meet our DAISY Team Award recipients for October, at The Sydney Kimmel Cancer Center, at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital. The Sydney Kimmel Cancer Center team was nominated by a patient who had an unforgettable experience while at the center for evaluation for recent CT scans and labs. The patient stated: I have only recently begun to receive treatment at the Torresdale campus. This created some confusion, regarding the scheduling of my 3-month infusion. When the doctor discovered my mistake in scheduling they went to the infusion room nurses and requested they make room for me to have my infusion, if they could, otherwise, I would pay the price of my mistake and then have to wait until my appointment 3 months later to have my treatment. They accepted me with open arms, and I met the most wonderful team of nurses I have ever experienced in my 75 years on this planet! I was treated with dignity, respect, and gracious loving care by the team which included Kathy who watched over me while I was receiving my infusion, Kerry who found the vein and added the line for the infusion to be entered making sure it was comfortable and correct for me, Joanne who finished the process by flushing the last of the infusion and removing my entrance line, as well as, cleansed the wound. Sara picked up all the duties for another patient and I watched as she treated that patient with the same loving care I received while Sara in effect allowed the other nurses to care for me. All of this was organized and processed to perfection by Christina who allowed my care to happen while the other patients were being cared for simultaneously. The harmony of the teamwork, the loving care, and the responsible safety for patients and staff during this pandemic not only impressed me but also received accolades from my support person as well. I am moved to nominate all these nurses for the DAISY Award. I do not know if words express the feelings that washed over me during my treatment and afterward but let me say having been a patient at Jefferson hospitals for surgeries, radiation therapy, and radioactive iodine isotope therapy, I must say this team of nurses impressed me as the best team I have ever encountered so far in my care at Jefferson. My wish is to nominate this entire team in the infusion room for chemotherapy at the center for the DAISY Award. Congratulations to the Sydney Kimmel Cancer Center Team!
