Simone provided an exceptional level of care when I was admitted to the Royal Hobart Hospital Maternity High Dependency Unit. I had an emergency c-section due to severe preeclampsia, with subsequent significant complications post-surgery. I was also unable to be with my premature newborn, who was admitted to NPICU.

Simone went over and above to ensure that I received outstanding care and felt safe and reassured throughout an extremely difficult time. She was unwaveringly professional, even when managing acute complex medical situations, creating a sense of calm that was felt by all, myself included. She was precise yet empathetic in her communication, ensuring medical information was discussed in an accessible and inclusive way with both my family and me. She was also a strong patient advocate, always making time to listen genuinely and with compassion and to ensure my needs were being met. Indeed, she consistently sought opportunities for me to be updated on the progress of my newborn in NPICU and to visit when circumstances permitted. She treated everyone - patient and staff - in a positive, respectful, and supportive manner. For example, I observed her on a number of occasions acting as a mentor and source of guidance for other staff.

Overall, Simone made me feel safe, calm, and in receipt of the highest quality of care, making a world of difference throughout a very difficult period. I cannot thank her enough, and I believe she is the ideal recipient of this Award.
