I am writing to you and the leadership at UPMC WM in regards to a critical RN-SCT transport we recently completed. I want to recognize Elisa Mooreland, SCT-RN and charge nurse that day who accompanied us and Jared Preston, the RT that also accompanied us in transport. We transported a very critical patient to a higher level of care. Aeromedical transport was assumingly unavailable due to weather and wind. Transport was from ER to OR as a high-priority patient. The need for the SCT team was due to multiple “pressor” medications, fentanyl, and blood infusing in transport as well as being a newly intubated patient.

Recognition is warranted to Elisa and Jared based on many facets including (1) Elisa remained over past her shift to care for the patient and Jared came in from home on call. I know this is expected but worth noting. (2) They both exhibited proactive behaviors in preparing the patient for transport (adding Lucas device) and in treating the patient's hemodynamically state of cardiovascular and respiratory status before problems would or could arise. (3) They continually worked as a team, involving me in treatment modalities, and remained “laser-focused” on the patient’s status during the entire transport. (4). They continually evaluated the diagnostic readings and the patient’s presentation throughout our encounter.

As a Paramedic, I do not understand all facets of their respective job(s), but they performed at the highest level treating this patient in the ambulance. In closing, please recognize these individuals. I have worked the Interfacility Transport job going on 10 years now, and as this was one of the most critical patients I have transported, it was also one of the most rewarding due to Elisa and Jared’s patient care, passion, and commitment to their trade. I was honored/ proud to be a part of the team that day.

It should also be noted that the help from the UPMC staff in ER to prepare the patient was outstanding.
