Spencer Heath is the epitome of a DAISY Nurse! A prime example of how he impacts the patient experience happened when Spencer was assigned to the EDOU unit.He heard commotion in the Pediatric EC where staff struggled to calm an Emergency detained pediatric patient. The compromise with the patient was that the staff would allow her into the hall for 10 minutes to dance. Spencer rose to the occasion and, along with the Pediatric Director, danced to "Be our Guest" from Beauty and the Beast. The patient was calmed, the staff was less stressed, and everyone had a good laugh about it.
Spencer has a positive impact and energy that is infectious. He is well respected and sought after by his peers regardless of where he is assigned.
Spencer represented his fellow peers in negotiations for STARS staff to be trained in a new capacity, in a department not often staffed by STARS. He was very professional, brought forth the staff's relevant concerns and an agreement was reached to mutually benefit both departments.
Spencer is always thinking of ways he can learn more or do more to help the patients, families and fellow staff. He seeks out every opportunity to learn and to grow professionally, and then he teaches students. As a Mentor for a Texas Tech student for a year, Spencer's knowledge and positive attitude will touch not only his patients but the patients of new nurses too.
