To further enhance the educational experience, Stacey created visual PowerPoint presentations for family members clearly outlining the difference between the old and the new pump and mailed this information to Veterans who could not come on site. She followed up with the veterans to ensure they received their pumps and addressed any questions they had.
I am pleased to nominate Stacey Haymes for the DAISY Award in recognition of her exceptional contribution to our department and the facility since she joined us in 2022. Stacey began her journey with us as an endoscopy nurse and has demonstrated remarkable growth in adaptability over the past years transitioning into the nursing education department. In this role, she works closely with procedural areas in the outpatient specialty clinic, showcasing her commitment to both patient care and professional development.
Recently, our facility faced a significant challenge when we learned that the enteral feeding pumps used by veterans at home would no longer be manufactured along with the necessary supplies. This situation affected approximately 14 to 15 Veterans in our community who relied on this equipment to survive. Stacey took the initiative to address this obstacle head on ensuring that these veterans received the necessary equipment and education to use the pump effectively. She informally led and worked closely with prosthetics, outpatient pharmacy, logistics, CITC, outpatient dietitian, and HBPC. Stacy’s proactive approach included reaching out to the vendor to arrange for educational sessions prior to the veteran’s appointment. She personally contacted each veteran to schedule meetings and provided them with the support they needed. Understanding that some veterans faced barriers such as financial constraints for transportation issues, she learned and utilized the VVC system to facilitate remote education for those unable to travel to the facility. To further enhance the educational experience, Stacey created visual PowerPoint presentations for family members clearly outlining the difference between the old and the new pump and mailed this information to Veterans who could not come on site. She followed up with the veterans to ensure they received their pumps and addressed any questions they had. Additionally, she confirmed that all veterans had the necessary supplies for their new equipment. Stacy's dedication to her Veterans and her willingness to learn about unfamiliar equipment to provide comprehensive education exemplifies the extraordinary qualities of a nurse.
Her commitment to embodying the ICARE values makes her the most deserving candidate for the DAISY Award. In summary, Stacey has not only met the challenges presented to her but has excelled in providing exceptional care and education to our veterans. Her contributions have made a significant impact, and I wholeheartedly recommend her for this prestigious award.
