I want to take the time to praise your palliative team, specifically Stacy Codding. I have been in healthcare for 20 years, 17 of those as an NP. I can say without any hesitation that I have never been more impressed by another healthcare worker as I was with Stacy. She was caring, compassionate, and straightforward with my Dad, myself, and family at a time when we needed it. I have witnessed death in my career and personal life. However, my father’s death was different than any I have experienced.

On Monday morning, he was able to voice his wishes again regarding palliative care. In a matter of 12 hours, he passed away. Stacy walked us through the dying process in real time and explained what was and would happen. She made sure he was kept comfortable. At the point he was taken off the bipap, I was concerned he would struggle to breathe and be uncomfortable. He never struggled after that point. I also witnessed Stacy observe a problem and address it directly and calmly with staff. She corrected course quickly and confidently.

I am so thankful for Stacy’s presence and care during the last days of my father’s life. Please pass this along to her as well. I also want to thank the entire staff on the third floor that helped care for my father as he was ushered into heaven. Each made a difference in our lives during these days.
