Stefanie is always seen as a team player assuring that her colleagues do not have any needs and is quick to assist a colleague. She always has a big smile and a positive attitude. She has been recognized by patients and families numerous times for her great care. She consistently strives to represent Patient Family Centered Care by assuring that not only are the patients' needs met but also the families.
While doing breakfast meal rounds on the 3rd floor I encountered Stefanie, who was trying (every way possible) to make this patient comfortable. She was assisting this patient with her breakfast meal. The patient had severe shoulder pain and was unable to bring her spoon to her mouth. The patient insisted she could feed herself. Stefanie was very busy at this time but took time to adjust the bed, pillow under patients arm and relocate the tray table. The patient was still having trouble and Stefanie went above and beyond to reposition the patient. She fed her some cereal until the patient was doing somewhat better.
She had to give another patient meds but obtained help to get the patient up to a chair and assisted by a CNA to get her fed.
This act of caring and kindness may seem small but being a Dietitian who sees so many elderly patients who cannot feed themselves, it was very important to me. If that patient was my elderly mother I would have been very happy that she was caring for her.
