Stephanie’s patient was placed on a ventilator with multiple IVs and tubes. The doctors told his wife that he might not recover. As his nurse, Stephanie provided her patient’s care but split her attention consoling his wife who was holding on with prayer that her husband would recover. She spoke to her about not giving up and suggested that she write a daily journal of this part of their life so that as he recovered, they both could rejoice in how far he had come. Months later, the couple came back for a visit. The wife thanked Stephanie for her journal suggestion, stating it was a great help getting through that time and she was thankful to share those feelings and her “miracle” with her husband.
