Then they said, hang on, we got to go.. these two girls quickly unlocked the bed and very calmly said, we're going to the ER. You hang on. I mean, they were moving so fast and running to get me there to the emergency department.
I've been a Cancer patient for 20-plus years. Head and neck, metastatic thyroid, and breast cancer. I have received outstanding care from my nurses at chemo bay..and I'm thankful for each and everyone of them. In October 2023, I was scheduled to get regular infusions, potassium and magnesium for my life threatening genetic rare disorder called Bartters and gitelamans syndrome and an octreotide shot for neuro endocrine tumors for carcinoid syndrome. The VAT team had put a line in already, and we waited a while for infusions to begin. I had Noura and also Stephanie. I told them I was not feeling right. They checked everything again and thought I was okay..still, something was happening: my mouth was pulling, I lost control of my bladder, and my left side was tingling..they called for PA and doctors stat. Then they said, hang on, we got to go.. these two girls quickly unlocked the bed and very calmly said, we're going to the ER. You hang on. I mean, they were moving so fast and running to get me there to the emergency department. A code stroke was called, and a week's stay began for me. They said this happened with my narrowing left subclavian vein and possibly through my pfo...very scary. With appropriate and fast medicine, my mouth got better, and the feeling came back.
I wanted to say thank you to Stephanie Foster and Noura Smith. These two nurses listened and knew how important it was to act.. they gave it their all. Please recognize them for being angels to me and saving my life. I will forever be grateful, and they are like family to me...truly part of my reason for being able to send a letter to thank them is because they saved my life. I WILL FOREVER BE GRATEFUL FOR THEM BOTH.. Please recognize them for their dedication, caring, and compassion, as well as their professionalism as registered oncology nurses. they are what the world needs more of today. They will forever be my heroes. Thank you for your time, and God bless Our Cancer Center nurses.
